Petroglyph hunting at Sunrise

Last night I made it to Albuquerque!  I’ve enjoyed my stay at Petroglyphs Guest House with my gracious host Carol.  I dragged myself out of bed and onto the trails at Petroglyphs National Monument at 6:30am.  I caught the tail-end of the sunrise.  Also spotted hot air balloons floating in the sky.  Desert millipedes joined me on my solo jaunt and cottontail bunnies seemed to lead me to the glyphs.  I walked through the fragrant sagebrush and slowly started spotting the thousands of years old etchings on the lava rocks along the 17-mile escarpment.  The black rocks are products of an 150,000 year old eruption, what ancestral natives would call the bleeding of Mother Earth.  Over a delicious homemade breakfast burrito, Carol oriented me quite well with this area.  I’m sad to leave so soon, but I’ve got to get to the Ceremonial in Gallup…  Last night I met up with Daryl, the Ceremonial’s Director of Photography, to pick up my press pass!! I am so excited with all of the energy that I’ve been greeted with thus far.  More to come!
